Research on the development of technologies and innovations of new materials with advanced properties is currently an attractive topic. These include research focuses on materials that are in direct contact with water, making their surfaces repellent and giving properties that are useful in many applications. The aim of this project is to prepare and characterize polymer surfaces of different nature with hydrophobic properties, looking for procedures that are easy, low cost, fast and scalable. For this, chemical and structural factors of the material are taken into account, reducing the free surface energy and generating roughness on different scales respectively. As polymeric materials poly(vinylidene fluoride) and poly(methyl methacrylate) are used as well as different surface processing techniques such as spraying, casting and pressing followed by a solvent film treatment developed by the HEMPOL group.
