Currently, researches on the surfaces design of different materials with special properties such as superhydrophobic and superoleophobic features, have aroused worldwide interest; that is due to use in applications as self-cleaning, low friction and anti-icing/fogging materials, among others. These features are interesting in fields like, construction, textile, automotive, optics, biotechnology, marine applications, aerospace, solar cells, paints or adhesives. This article is a review of many of the theories used, some of the methods used to generate surfaces and then describe some of the implications of the effect and their applications.
